Southeastern Conference Announces 2013 Men's Tennis Schedule Grid

The Southeastern Conference announced the 2013 men’s tennis schedule grid with each participating school playing a round-robin schedule with six home and six road matches in the 13-team league.

The Aggies, led by head coach Steve Denton and associate head coach Bob McKinley, are coming off of a record-setting year in 2011 when the club set the school mark for dual victories with a 29-6 record and for the second straight year finished ranked No. 10 in the country. The Aggie duo of Jeff Dadamo and Austin Krajicek won the 2011 NCAA Doubles National Championship and the Aggie team advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 after winning the Big 12 Championship.

“We are headed into the toughest league in the country from top to bottom,” Denton said. “Combined with our non-conference schedule, I can’t imagine any team in the country having a more difficult schedule than ours. Having said that, I know our team is excited about the challenge of being in the SEC.”

In non-conference play this season, the Aggies have already faced the top three ranked teams in the country in current No. 1 and three-time defending national champion USC, second-ranked Ohio State and third-ranked Virginia. USC recently broke the Aggies’ 43-match home winning streak, the longest home winning streak in A&M history in any Aggie athletic program.

Currently, Texas A&M is ranked No. 22 in the latest ITA rankings and seven SEC clubs are ranked in the Top 25 and 11 of the 12 schools are ranked in the Top 41 of the country’s elite. In the 2011 NCAA Tennis Championships, the Aggies made their 18th consecutive NCAA appearance and were awarded the No. 9 seed and advanced to the Round of 16 by virtue of a 4-0 victory over SEC brethren LSU. Joining the Aggies in the 2011 NCAA Championship field were nine of the 12 SEC schools. (Georgia, Kentucky, Florida, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU and Vanderbilt.)

The Aggies will open the 2013 tennis campaign on the road at South Carolina and Florida on Mar. 1 and 3 respectively. Vanderbilt and Kentucky come to Aggieland on Mar. 8 and 10. Back to back matches against LSU (Mar. 15) and Arkansas (Mar. 17) will be followed by four straight road trips to Tennessee (Mar. 29), Georgia (Mar. 31), Auburn (Apr. 5) and Alabama (Apr. 7). The Aggies close out the SEC regular season with home matches against Mississippi State (Apr. 12) and Ole Miss (Apr. 14) at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center which hosted the 2009 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships.
