COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M women’s tennis team jumped four spots to an all-time high No. 6 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings released today.

The program’s previous highest ranking was a No. 9 showing on March 28, 2001.

Texas A&M, under the direction of second-year head coach Howard Joffe, is 5-1 following three consecutive wins against Top 15 opponents. The Aggies, who host 24th-ranked and former Big 12 Conference-foe Baylor Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center, have not played since defeating No. 13 Michigan, 4-3, on Feb. 16 in Ann Arbor.

A&M is one of four teams in the Top 10 representing the Southeastern Conference and one of six SEC teams listed in the Top 20. Defending national champion Florida, which plays in College Station on Sunday, is No. 4 followed by No. 5 Alabama, Texas A&M and No. 7 Georgia. Vanderbilt is No. 12 and Auburn is No. 17.

Individually, Aggie All-American senior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar is No. 6 in singles. Senior Nazari Urbina and junior Cristina Stancu also are listed in the singles rankings, coming it at No. 67 and No. 83, respectively.

Stancu and freshman teammate Stefania Hristov are No. 11 in the national doubles rankings.
