Texas A&M’s 2012 football season-opener against Louisiana Tech will be televised on ESPNU with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. (CT) on Aug. 30, ESPN and the Southeastern Conference Office announced today. The Thursday night game between the Aggies and Bulldogs will be contested in Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La.

The 2012 season will mark the inaugural season for the Aggies in the SEC and will also mark the debut of Aggie head coach Kevin Sumlin. Sumlin is a two-time Paul “Bear” Bryant National Coach of the Year finalist and compiled a 35-17 in four years at the University of Houston. He led the Cougars to a school record for victories in a season in 2011.

Texas A&M finished 2011 with a bowl victory over Northwestern and a 7-6 overall record. The Aggies return 51 lettermen as well as eight starters on offense and six starters on defense.

Season tickets for Aggie home football games are sold out and that includes the largest percentage of seats set aside for students in the country. Kyle Field is the home of the 12th Man and 31,000 students stand ready to yell and assist the Aggie football team.

The first SEC opponent will be Florida and the Gators come to Kyle Field on Saturday, Sept. 8. Other SEC home games include Arkansas (Sept. 29), LSU (Oct. 20) and Missouri (Nov. 24). The SEC road games for Texas A&M will be trips to face Ole Miss (Oct. 6), Auburn (Oct. 27), Mississippi State (Nov. 3) and Alabama (Nov. 10).
