The Texas A&M athletics program moved to 11th place in the first winter standings of the Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings which were released Thursday. The Aggies were ranked No. 17 in the final fall standings.

“We had three Top 10 finishes in our winter sports thus far with men’s and women’s indoor track and field to go along with our women’s swimming and diving team is tremendous,” Texas A&M Director of Athletics Bill Byrne said. “Our goal is always to improve and we would like to have our best year ever. Our teams are not satisfied. They continue to push for championships and continue to put in the necessary work to improve.”

The three Top 10 finishes for men’s and women’s indoor track and field and women’s swimming and diving provided Texas A&M with 216 points scored in the winter sports.

The latest standings included results from women’s ice hockey, women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, rifle, skiing and men’s wrestling.

The Aggies received 73.5 points for the women’s indoor track and field fifth-place NCAA finish, 73.5 points for the sixth-place women’s swimming and diving finish at last week’s NCAA Championships and 69 points for the eighth-place men’s indoor track and field NCAA finish.

The highest finish in Texas A&M history in the Directors’ Cup standings was sixth in 2009-10 and the Aggies followed up in 2010-11 with an eighth place finish. In the first winter standings of 2009-10 the Aggies were ranked No. 12 and in the first winter standings of 2010-11 the Aggies were ranked No. 20.

The Texas A&M women’s basketball team, the defending national champions, has advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 and will face Maryland on Sunday in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Below the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings is a listing of the current rankings for Texas A&M athletics. The first outdoor track and field rankings should be released later today and Texas A&M’s Pat Henry has put together an unprecedented triple-double with the men’s and women’s outdoor track and field programs winning three straight national championships.

The next standings update will be released on Thursday, April 5.
