IRVING, Texas – Three members of the Texas A&M women’s golf team were named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 Golf Team, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Earning first team Academic All-Big 12 honors was junior Aly Smith. Junior Sarah Beth Davis and sophomore Katerina Ruzickova received second team recognition.

Smith is a business honors major from Houston, Texas, who garnered her first academic award from the conference. Davis, a business management major from Victoria, Texas, picked up her second straight award, and Ruzickova, who is a phycology major from Ostrava, Czech Republic, was named Academic All-Big 12 for the first time in her career.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, the academic women’s golf squad consisted of 25 first team members and eight second team selections. First team members include those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

The Aggies return to the course April 27-29 for the 2012 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship at the Lawrence Country Club in Lawrence, Kan.
