COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Three players from the Texas A&M women’s golf team qualified for the 112th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, held Aug. 6-12, 2012 at The Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio.

Chelsea Mocio, Sarah Beth Davis and Natalie Reeves claimed three of the top four spots at a sectional qualifying event that was held Wednesday at the Dallas Athletic Club’s Blue Course.

Mocio and Davis’ 1-under 71 put them in a tie for second, while Reeves was just two shots back with a 1-over 73. She tied for fourth. Only the top 10 players of more than 87 participants qualified.

Mocio, Davis and Reeves will travel to Ohio in early August for the Women’s Amateur, which was one of the USGA’s original three championships along with the U.S. Amateur and the U.S. Open. It was first conducted in 1895.

The event starts with two rounds of stroke play on Aug. 6-7 and the top 64 players then proceed to the first round of match play on Aug. 8. The 36-hole championship final match play takes place on Aug. 12. Match play from Aug. 8-12 will be televised on the Golf Channel.
