IOWA CITY, IA -- A trio of Texas A&M divers punched their tickets to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on the first day of the NCAA Zone D Championships on Thursday at the University of Iowa.
Earning their spots to their respective national meet were seniors Janie Potvin and Jaele Patrick to the women’s championship and senior Grant Nel to the men’s meet.
Potvin and Patrick finished 1-2 in the women’s one-meter springboard with Potvin taking the victory with a 12-dive score of 622.0 and Patrick was right behind with a score of 612.40. Both will compete at the NCAA Women’s Championships at Auburn University March 15-17. Teammate Rebecca St. Germain put herself in an excellent position to advance with a sixth-place finish with a score of 568.25.
Nel narrowly held off longtime rival Drew Livingston of Texas for the win in the men’s three-meter. Nel tallied a 1.25-point victory over Livingston with a score of 857.65 and will compete at the men’s meet in Federal Way, Wash., March 22-24. Teammate Hayden Jones placed seventh with a score of 723.
