BRYAN, Texas -- Texas A&M product Michael Wacha made his Major League debut Thursday night against the Kansas City Royals.
The game was delayed about an hour because of rain, but Wacha will strike out the first batter he faces. It was one of six he would have on the night in 7 complete innings of work.
The Cardinals will push across two runs in the bottom of the first. David Freese with the RBI single to make it 2 to nothing.
As a national league pitcher, and playing at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Wacha got to put a bat in his hand and delivered a base hit in his first at bat. The single to right center was the highlight for his Aggie teammates who were watching the game at a restaurant in Corvallis, Oregon, on the eve of their NCAA tournament opener against U.C. Santa Barbara.
Wacha would get a no decision in the game after the Cardinals bullpen gave up a home run in the top of the 9th inning as the Royals grabbed a 4-2 lead.
