COLLEGE STATION, TX -- Texas A&M junior pitcher Michael Wacha was selected as the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon following a vote of media covering the league.

Joining Wacha in garnering recognition from the league were Baylor first baseman Max Muncy (Player of the Week) and Missouri left-handed pitcher Blake Holovach (Newcomer of the Week).

Wacha was nearly perfect during Friday’s 4-0 complete-game shutout win at Pepperdine as the Texarkana, Texas, native took a perfect game into the eighth inning. Despite losing his bid at perfection, the right-hander finished the contest with a two-hitter to run his record on the season to a perfect 4-0.

The 6-foot-6 junior was nothing short of spectacular in the victory as he retired the first 21 batters he faced in order before the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the eighth reached on a throwing error that followed a strikeout. A weakly-hit infield single in the next at bat ended the no-hitter but Wacha escaped a two-on, no-out situation to keep the shutout intact. He finished the contest with eight strikeouts and no walks for the third complete game of his three-year A&M career.

This marks the second time this season an Aggie hurler has been honored for his achievements on the pitching mound as senior right-hander Ross Stripling was named Big 12 co-Pitcher of the Week on March 5, an honor he shared with Oklahoma’s Jordan John.
