Webb, Geubelle Tabbed Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Ameer Webb (Texas A&M) and Andrea Geubelle (Kansas) have been tabbed Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for competition from Feb. 10-12. It is the second career accolade for both student-athletes.

With Webb's second honor,Texas A&M now boasts three male awards in 2012. It marks the third time in the Big 12 the Aggies have tallied three weekly distinctions in one year. Geubelle joins Kate Sultanova (2008) as the only Jayhawk females to win the weekly award twice in one season. It also marks the second time in league history that KU has claimed the Female Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honor three times in one year.

Webb was a double winner for the Aggies on Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational, as he claimed titles in the 60 and 200 meters. He posted a 20.79 time in the 200 to take over the collegiate lead with the second fastest time by an American this season and fourth fastest in the world. The junior also clocked a 6.70 60-meter time to take top honors, leading the Aggies to a 1-2-3 sweep of both events.

Andrea Geubelle, Kansas, Jr., University Place, Wash.
Staking her claim as one of the nation's top horizontal jumpers, Geubelle took the victory in the triple jump Saturday at the Husky Classic in Washington. She hit a personal-best distance of 13.28 meters (43-07.00 ft.) on her final attempt to collect her third victory of the year in the event. The mark leads the league and is second-best in the nation. The junior also was runner-up in the long jump behind teammate Francine Simpson, notching an indoor personal best with a top leap of 6.23 meters (20-5.25 ft.).
