SHERMAN, Texas (AP) - A death row inmate condemned for a 1984
quadruple slaying will wait at least two more weeks before learning
whether DNA testing will be allowed on evidence that he says could
prove his innocence.
A state district judge in Sherman on Thursday postponed a ruling
on Lester Leroy Bower Jr.'s request that evidence from the crime
scene undergo forensic testing that wasn't available nearly a
quarter-century ago.
After a 90-minute hearing, state District Judge Jim Fallon gave
both sides more time to submit records to the court. It will now be
at least Aug. 1 before a decision is made.
Bower had been set to die July 22 for killing four people at an
airplane hangar in Grayson County. His execution has been halted
until a ruling on the DNA testing is made.
