WACO (April 8, 2009)-A senate bill authored by Sen. Troy Fraser that would subsidize the installation solar panels is headed to the Senate floor Wednesday.

The Senate Business and Commerce committee voted the bill out of committee Tuesday.

The Fraser solar proposal calls for the creation of a pot of money that would not only subsidize Texans who want to install solar panels on their roofs but also utilities companies that want to build big, concentrated solar facilities.

The money, from a surcharge on electric bills, could amount to as much as $100 million a year for five years.

The proposal also provides a rebate for solar products manufactured in Texas.

The bill prohibits homeowners associations from barring solar panel installations.

It also requires homeowners associations in new subdivisions to offer solar panels as an option for new homebuyers.

Hell yeah! I want some. Computers have gotten smaller on the outside, bigger and faster on the inside expodentially faster than anything else. Why are solar panels still so large and expensive?
