Concern is growing that wildfires, like the one that raced though Colorado County over the weekend, might be just a glimpse of what's in store for Texas this summer.

The fire leveled two homes, two out-buildings and more than 1,500 acres of land. It started in the worst place possible in Colorado County: the Piney Woods. That's the heart of the county's belt of heavy brush and forest which was a tender box due to lack of rainfall.

"Being this dry, this early in the summer is a real concern for us for what the rest of the summer holds," said Tom Spencer, Texas Forest Service. "Typically speaking, July and August are dryer fuel wise than June is, so to be this dry, this early in the summer is a real concern."

Colorado County is one of many parts of Texas experiencing the driest conditions in a decade.
