ALICE, Texas (AP) - A narcotics-sniffing dog in South Texas that
helped with several drug cases has been taken from his kennel.
Jim Wells County Sheriff Oscar Lopez says the 4-year-old German
shepherd is named Ivo (EYE'-voh).
Lopez told The Associated Press on Thursday that the dog turned
up missing from the kennel in a deputy's fenced-in back yard in
Premont (PREE'-mahnt).
The sheriff described the dog as black with brown feet, "very
friendly, but he's useless to anybody else."
Lopez says the dog was reported missing Saturday after
"somebody went in and got him out of there."
The sheriff declined to speculate on who took Ivo.

I have a friend who works with the K9 unit for the U.S Border Patrol. Most of their dogs who have been successful at catching contraband drugs, have a bounty put on their heads by drug smugglers. I am afraid it's not good news for this dog. It is a felony to kill a law-enforcement dog. If this person is apprehended, they need to spend the rest of their life in prison! These dogs save thousands of lives, and millions of dollars every year!
