Michael Oder joined KBTX in August of 2009 as a photojournalist. Nowadays, he splits his time on and off camera, as a morning show anchor, reporter, producer and photographer. He's also filled in as producer for News 3 at Noon, News 3 at Six, and occasionally, News 3 at Ten.
Michael is a proud Bearkat graduate of Sam Houston State University with a degree in Mass Communications. During his time at Sam Houston, he was an anchor, reporter, producer and director for News 7 on Cable Channel 7. Individually, he was recognized as one of the nation's best reporters for "Hard News" by the Broadcast Educators Association in 2009.
When not reporting, Michael enjoyed working sporting events as a stadium announcer and crew for Athletic Department broadcasts. He also hosted a weekly radio show on Fridays called "The Weekend Starter" for over two years. That show continues to air each Friday in Huntsville on 90.5 the KAT, the University's radio station.
As a kid, Michael frequently lugged around the family's camcorder. His desire to tell stories had its beginnings at family events and holiday gatherings. Recruiting his younger brother as a cameraman, Michael would interview nearly anyone including friends and teachers.
Michael is a proud "junior." His father, Mike Sr., is a firefighter for the Port of Houston Fire Department and retired recently as a Paramedic from the fire department in his hometown of Humble, TX. His mother, Debbie, works in real estate in the Greater Humble area and his brother, Scott, is a Proud Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2012.
When not at work, Michael can be found exploring the community or running a trail. Michael is a avid fan of television and spends plenty of time watching it (he excuses it as "work-related"). He is also a big fan of music, which has helped him as a wedding DJ. Michael has over 10 years of weddings and party experience under his belt, and continues to work with brides in the Greater Houston area and in the Brazos Valley. His passion for listening and sharing stories is what motivates him. Each day brings a new story.
