Steve Fullhart anchors First News at Four and News 3 at Five weekdays, and serves as KBTX's executive producer. He joined the Brazos Valley’s news leader in May 2004 and has anchored, reported for and produced every newscast at KBTX over his time at the station.
Steve had extended previous anchor stints, first on News 3's weekend newscasts, then on Brazos Valley This Morning where he spearheaded significant changes to improve the region's dominant morning newscast. Before anchoring, he was the station's lead reporter.
A Lone Star Emmy-winning producer, Steve has won or been a part of teams that have earned 23 honors from the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters since 2009, including 11 First Place awards. Steve has also been recognized by the Headliners Foundation, the Houston Press Club and the national Telly Awards.
In 2010, the Brazos Valley Coalition Against Domestic Violence gave Steve its "Voice Against Violence" award for his live blog during the John Thuesen murder trial, noting "commitment to promoting awareness of domestic violence in Brazos County." The Bryan-College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau named Steve a "Hometown Hero" in 2012 for creating the "Giveaway May" promotion, which was a partnership with the CVB.
A graduate of Indiana University, Steve was an anchor, reporter, photographer and producer for public television station WTIU’s award-winning student newscast. Individually, he was recognized as one of Indiana’s top student talents by the Society of Professional Journalists. He also called sporting events and anchored sports updates on student radio station WIUS (now WIUX).
Steve also reported for five different newspapers, was a staff writer for an internationally-distributed magazine for children of military service members, and spent two summers doing radio and television work for the American Forces Network in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Steve interned at KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington.
Besides being a proud Hoosier, Steve is also proud to be a military brat. His father served more than three decades in the Air Force. Steve attended seven different schools before college, and graduated from his third high school, an American school on a Royal Air Force base in England.
