The Wright Response - January 10, 2013

LIKE A LOT OF MEDIA, WE HEAR FROM PEOPLE WHO SAY – “WHY CAN’T YOU REPORT ON SOMETHING POSITIVE FOR A CHANGE.” NOW, WE DO THAT A LOT, BUT IN THIS DAY AND TIME, SOMETIMES EVEN WHEN WE DO, THERE ARE THOSE WHO WILL ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO TURN IT NEGATIVE. OUR FACEBOOK PAGE IS A FASCINATING COLLECTION OF OPINIONS. GOOD STORIES ABOUT THE AREA BRING COMMENTS LIKE “MUST HAVE BEEN A SLOW NEWS DAY,” OR “TYPICAL KBTX – NOTHING BETTER TO REPORT ON.”

SO IT IS WITH A HUMEROUS PICTURE WE POSTED AND A SIDE STORY WE DID ON THE MARQUEE AT J. CODY’S – THE SIGN SAYS “SORRY JASON, REFERRING TO JASON BIENSKI, JOHNNY FOR MAYOR.” WHILE THERE WERE LOT OF “LIKES,” FOR THOSE OF YOU WITHOUT FACEBOOK, THAT IS A GOOD THING, AND SOME GOOD COMMENTS, ONE POSTER NAMED EDGAR, AS IS THE CASE WITH SOMEONE ALMOST ALWAYS – FOUND A WAY TO POST PROFANITY, SPELLING IT IN SUCH A WAY THAT IT GOT PAST THE FACEBOOK FILTER.

“ROLL TIDE, LOL. Y’ALL HAVE GOT TO BE SOME STUPID ****. LOL.”

THEN – THE SIMPLE STORY TURNS POLITICAL…JERRY POSTED:

“Oh yeah he could be the next President. I mean he lead a football team. That’s more experience than the idiot that we have in office already.”

POLITICAL BELIEFS BESIDE, CAN’T WE JUST HAVE A FUN STORY WITHOUT ALL OF THIS?

I SHARE THIS TO SAY – WHY IS THERE SUCH A NEED TO POST THIS PUBLICLY, WITH YOUR PICTURE ATTACHED? NOW – WE PULLED BOTH COMMENTS OFF THE SITE QUICKLY, BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS – WE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO BE WORRIED ABOUT LANGUAGE LIKE THAT, AND YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE TO WORRY THAT YOUR KIDS OR GRANDCHILDREN MIGHT SEE THAT GARBAGE.

WE’LL KEEP LOOKING FOR THE LIGHTER SIDE OF THE NEWS AND WILL CONTINUE SHARING IT, KNOWING THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE THIS AROUND EVERY CORNER.

THE SHOOTING IN HEARNE WAS A TRAGIC SITUATION. JOE WAS UPSET WITH KBTX ON TERMINOLOGY WE USED:

I'm offended that KBTX would classify the person who was shot in Hearne as the "victim" before the investigation has even concluded. If the man was in fact in possession of a weapon then he is NOT the victim but merely a man who chose the wrong path and paid the consequences if he displayed it to police. While it is a tragedy for the man's family that does not make him a victim. I would appreciate it if kbtx would refrain from making the police officers (who put their lives at risk daily for our safety) out to be villains before the investigation is even complete...especially when a non police weapon was recovered at the scene. As a whole kbtx does an excellent job of being fair and balanced that's why this reference to him as the "victim" made me see red.

JOE – WE APPRECIATE ALL COMMENTS, AND UNDERSTAND EMOTIONS HAVE BEEN RUNNING HIGH IN HEARNE FOLLOWING THIS INCIDENT. BY DEFINITION, VICTIM IS “ONE KILLED OR HURT.” I STAND BY THE USE OF THAT TERM, OUR THOUGHTS GO OUT TO ALL INVOLVED IN THIS – AND AT NO TIME WOULD WE EVER MAKE A PUBLIC OFFICER OUT TO BE VILLAINS. WE REPORTED THIS INCIDENT AS DETAILS WERE MADE AVAILABLE AND WERE ACCURATE IN THIS DESCRIPTION.

WE’VE COLLECTED A LOT OF COMMENTS OVER THESE PAST TWO WEEKS, SOME SPORTS RELATED – SOME TIRED OF ALL THE FOOTBALL COVERAGE. SAY WHAT YOU WILL, BUT THE HYPE SURROUNDING A&M FOOTBALL AND MANZIEL’S BRINGING HOME THE HEISMAN HAS PUT THIS REGION ON THE MAP THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. SO – ENJOY THESE MOMENTS. REMEMBER THE ECONOMIC REPORT FROM BAYLOR ECONOMIST RAY PERRYMAN WHO SAID IF A&M LEFT THE BIG 12 IT WOULD BE DEVASTATING TO THE LOCAL ECONOMY AND AFFECT THE TEXAS ECONOMY? HE NEEDS TO RE-ISSUE THAT REPORT.

AND SINCE I’M REALLY DEGRESSING, THE B-C-S FOOTBALL SYSTEM WAS EXPOSED MONDAY NIGHT. NOTRE DAME WAS NUMBER ONE? REALLY? WHO KNEW THAT WE WERE WATCHING THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH? A&M SHOULD BE NO WORSE THAN NO. 3, AND AT THE END OF THE SEASON, ARGUABLY – THE AGGIES WERE THE BEST TEAM IN THE COUNTRY. AND WHO AMONG WOULD HAVE EVER THOUGHT 2012 HAD THAT LITTLE SURPRISE WAITING FOR US?

SO – HERE’S TO 2013. ENJOY THIS RIDE.

KBTX THANKS YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS. WE VIEW THIS AS A PARTNERSHIP, AND FOR ALL 2013 HAS IN STORE, THE GOOD AND THE NOT SO GOOD – WE WILL SHARE IT TOGETHER.
