LAST WEEK WE WERE HIT WITH A REGIONAL FIBER OUTAGE, THAT MEANT E-MAIL WAS DOWN ON CAMPUS, SOME PEOPLE LOST INTERNET CONNECTION, AND KBTX EXPERIENCED ISSUES TO SATELLITE CUSTOMERS. FROM TIME TO TIME, I LIKE TO ADDRESS THIS, AS IT IS A BIT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND - EVEN FOR US.
Why? Why does KBTX have awful formatting too? Please upgrade so you have satisfied customers. This is the ONLY channel I've ever had that has "technical difficulties" this often. I have compassion for y'all, but it's bothersome. I hope it's permanently fixed soon.
FIRST, IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH FORMATTING, OR UPGRADING. KBTX IS FORTUNATE THAT OUR PARENT COMPANY HAS FAITH IN THIS STATION AND IN THIS AREA - TO THE POINT THEY INVESTED OVER 6-MILLION DOLLARS IN THIS FACILITY OVER A 3-4 YEAR PERIOD OF TIME. WHEN DISH AND DIRECT SET UP THEIR RECEIVE FACILITY, THEY DID SO IN WACO, HOME TO 70% OF THE POPULATION OF THIS TELEVISION MARKET KNOWN AS WACO-TEMPLE-BRYAN.
WACO STATIONS ARE RECEIVED FROM THEIR ANTENNA, SOME BY FIBER AS A BACK-UP. BECAUSE OF THE DISTANCE BETWEEN OUR TOWER IN CARLOS AND THE RECEIVER LOCATION NORTH OF WACO, KBTX INVESTED THOUSANDS IN INSTALLATION OF A FIBER. WE LEASE THIS FIBER FROM THE COMPANY THAT OWNS IT. THAT COMPANY'S FIBER WENT DOWN. WE WENT OFF.
THIS WAS FRUSTRATING, BUT OUT OF OUR CONTROL. OF COURSE, SUDDENLINK LOCALLY WAS FINE AS WERE OTHER CABLE COMPANIES - IT ONLY AFFECTED SATELLITE CUSTOMERS. BY THE WAY - TO GET OUR SIGNAL TO WACO - BECAUSE OF THE FIBER NETWORK - OUR SIGNAL TRAVELS TO DALLAS, TO GEORGETOWN, THEN TO WACO. COMPLICATED - BUT SO IS THE TECHNOLOGICAL WORLD WE'RE LIVING IN. IF AT ANYTIME YOU'D LIKE TO SEE OUR UPGRADES AND TAKE A LOOK AROUND, LET ME KNOW- YOU ARE WELCOME HERE ANYTIME.

Mike, I am curious about the announcements which run so often regarding the ASPCA. They are real tear jerkers. I have to wonder if they are all paid by the organization or if they are free public service announcements. I have heard that the money is not used properly by that organization. I hope that money will be spent locally for the care of neglected animals. I fear that a lot of money is sent their way by sympathetic viewers and it is certainly their privilege to give to anyone they want. Do you have any insight into this?
MYRL - I AGREE - THOSE COMMERCIALS ARE TEAR JERKERS AND OBVIOUSLY EFFECTIVE. THESE COMMERCIALS AIR ON KBTX AND CW AS PART OF PROGRAMMING FROM THE NETWORK OR SYNDICATORS THAT PRODUCE SHOWS LIKE RACHAEL, ELLEN OR SEINFELD, AND ARE PROBABLY A COMBINATION OF PAID AND FREE. THEY AREN'T PURCHASED LOCALLY. EARLY IN THE YEAR, YOU WILL SEE SOME OF THESE ADS KNOWN AS "P-I" WHICH STANDS FOR "PER INQUIRY…MEANING - WHEN SOMEONE CALLS THE NUMBER ON THE SCREEN, THE NUMBER IS SPECIFIC TO THAT NUMBER OR REGION, SO THE A-S-P-C-A CAN TRACK WHERE THE CALLS ARE COMING FROM, AND PAY THE NETWORK OR SYNDICATORS ACCORDINGLY.
I CAN'T SPEAK TO HOW THE MONEY IS USED, BUT PERHAPS THIS WILL GIVE YOU A LITTLE INSIGHT AS TO HOW THESE THINGS WORK.
