John Gilbert

John Gilbert anchors KBTX News 3 at 6 and 10 with Meredith Stancik.

He is a broadcast veteran of 30 years reporting and anchoring television and radio news, including anchor stints in Las Vegas, Nevada and Knoxville, Tennessee. He was also a reporter for Dallas station KDFW-TV in the Capital Bureau covering Governors Ann Richards and George W. Bush.

John also worked at stations in Tyler, Texas, West Palm Beach, Florida, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Lake Charles, Louisiana.

There are few dull moments in the news business. John has reported from the national political conventions, stayed on location for live reports through the night as Hurricane Andrew swept across Florida, and zoomed near the sound barrier over Death Valley, California in an F-16 fighter jet with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. He has also covered "live fire" exercises at Fort Hood.

John has been honored for his work by the Associated Press in Texas and Florida, by the Dallas Press Club, and was part of the team that won a Best Newscast Emmy for KCEN News in 2005. And he has been involved in numerous community service projects, including the Children's Miracle Network Celebration, the Komen Race for the Cure, Camp Fire Absolutely Incredible Kids Day, and serving as a board member of the Ronald McDonald House.

John was born and raised in Texas and enjoys the Lone Star State, from the colorful landscape to the diverse people who call this state home. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University and loves to attend Aggie sporting events, especially football and basketball.

Outside of work, John likes to fish, kayak, jog, and work on the yard. He is married, has a daughter in high school and a son who attends Texas A&M.
