News 3 looks back to remember November 18, 1999.
Bonfire Memorial Ceremony Opening with commentary by MIke Wright.
November 18, 1999- Texas A&M's bonfire came crashing down in the early morning hours, killing 12 Aggies and injuring 27 others. The 59-foot-high stack was one week away from completion before the annual A&M-University of Texas football game. The collapse left both physical and emotional scars while ending one of the most revered traditions at Texas A&M. A ceremony to dedicate the Bonfire Memorial was held on November 18, 2004, the five-year anniversary of the collapse. The Bonfire Memorial serves as tribute to the lives lost.
November 18, 2004 marked the fifth year of remembrance for the Bonfire Tragedy. Keta's Hallmark, Post Oak Mall and KBTX-TV honored the memory of our fallen Ags with the limited edition Bonfire Memorial Pin.
Keta's Hallmark sold out of the Bonfire Memorial Pins. Thanks to the overwhelming Aggie Spirit, a total of $2316 was donated to the Bonfire Memorial Fund! Thanks to everyone for their support!
