Darryl Bruffett, a graduate of Sam Houston State University, began his career at KBTX in 1987 and was promoted to Sports Director in December 1990.
Although Darryl was born in Springfield, Missouri, he considers himself a Texan since he has lived in the Lone Star State for nearly 30 years. The Alvin High School graduate was a three-year letter winner in golf. He earned a pair of Associate Degrees in Communications and Business Management at Alvin Community College before transferring to SHSU. Darryl earned his Broadcast Communications Degree in 1987 and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Darryl is the senior on-air talent at KBTX. Under his watch as Sports Director, News 3 Sports continues to focus on local sports coverage:
- KBTX's Friday Football Fever is the longest running high school football highlight and scoreboard show in Central Texas.
- Classroom Champions, which began in 1995, profiles local high school student athletes who excel in both the classroom and in athletics.
- KBTX's in-depth coverage of Texas A&M athletics is second to none, and since 2004, KBTX has produced "Aggie Game Day" which orginates from the Aggie Fan Zone during home football games at Kyle Field. The 30- and 60-minute preview shows give fans an in-depth look at different aspects of the team, from players to support staff to coaches' wives' perspecitves of the game. KBTX has been awarded four Telly Awards for excellence in broadcasting for "Aggie Game Day."
Darryl does more than live in the Brazos Valley; he's involved in his community. He's an active member of Central Baptist Church in Bryan and helps in the Youth Department. He also is actively involved in the annual Hospice Happening, and has served as a commencement speaker at local high school graduations.
In 1990, Darryl married the former Lori Cedillo, a 1983 graduate from A&M Consolidated High School. She is also a KBTX employee in the Advertising Sales Department. Darryl and Lori live in College Station with their 3 children: Ryan, Tyler and Shelby.
