Steve Fullhart is the senior news reporter at KBTX, having been with the station since May 2004. In December 2007, he was named KBTX Media's assistant news director.
Prior to that, Steve was Internet News Producer for KBTX.com, helping oversee news, weather and sports content on the web channel.
In addition to countless talks with Brazos Valley residents whose stories he loves to hear, Steve has questioned dozens of important, influential and/or well-known people, including:
- Former President George H. W. Bush
- Defense Secretary Robert Gates and three other Texas A&M presidents
- Senators John McCain, Kay Bailey Hutchison, John Cornyn and Phil Grahm
- Congressmen Chet Edwards, Kevin Brady and John Carter
- Governors Rick Perry and Mike Huckabee
- Almost every sitting councilmember in Bryan/College Station since mid-2004
- Aggie coaches Mark Turgeon, Gary Blair, Dennis Franchione and Billy Gillispie
- Former Coach Bob Knight (see: Steve's alma mater)
- Aggie Astronaut Mike Fossum and the crew aboard Space Shuttle Discovery
- Actor/cult icon/Grimes County resident Chuck Norris (Steve's first "big" interview)
Among his notable stories are the From the Corps series for which the Houston Press Club honored Steve at their annual Lonestar Awards. He also was the reporter and an editor for All the Best: 10 Years of the George Bush Presidential Library.
Steve attended Indiana University, where he was an anchor, reporter, photographer and producer for an award-winning weekly student broadcast on WTIU, Bloomington's public television station. Steve was recognized by the state chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists as one of the Indiana's top talents for his work on that newscast. He also called sporting events on student radio station WIUS (now WIUX).
Steve had his hands in a number of different projects over the years. He has written for five different newspapers, was a staff writer for an internationally-distributed magazine, and in addition to his on-air work at IU, spent two summers doing radio and television work for the American Forces Network in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He also interned at KHQ, the NBC affiliate in Spokane, Washington.
As a military brat, Steve and his family were constantly on the move as he grew up. His move to the Twin Cities was the eleventh in his life. Steve attended seven different schools before college - including six in six years - and got his high school diploma from his third different high school, which was on a Royal Air Force base in England.
When he's not keeping up with the latest news headlines, Steve is an avid sports fan. He counts the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Redskins as his favorite teams, as well as his Indiana Hoosiers.
