KBTX-TV on Dish Network

After five years of communication with Dish Network, KBTX News 3 will soon be available to Dish customers in the Waco-Temple-Bryan DMA.

UPDATE: Thursday, March 26, 2009

KBTX Media has completed installation of fiber line which is now carrying the KBTX audio and video feed to the Echostar/Dish head end south of Waco.

Based on information we had three short weeks ago, this installation was completed ahead of schedule, thanks to some truly incredible teamwork between Sprint, AT&T, Echostar and the engineering staff of KBTX.

We still have no firm date but everyone is asking for one. Echostar has a set amount of time between now and the official launch date. We are hoping for sooner than later. Will that suffice for now? We are as anxious as many of you have been.

Thank you for the calls and e-mails about KBTX being added to the Echostar line-up. This has been very humbling for all of us at KBTX Media, and we thank you for your support and patience.

WHAT CHANNEL ON DISH? we believe it will be on Channel 3, but we are working to confirm

WHY CAN’T IT START NOW? KBTX is installing special lines which carries our programming directly to the Dish facility in South Waco.

WILL KBTX BE AVAILABLE IN HI-DEF?: No. This was a Dish decision. BUT – we would recommend, as many do now, that you have an antenna to pick up KBTX CBS programming in Hi-Def. The quality of the signal coming from an antenna directly from the KBTX transmitter will be much better than any Hi-Def signal you receive from ANY other broadcast or cable channel through Dish Network.

WHO WILL PICK UP KBTX ON DISH? This is where it gets tricky. You must reside inside the Waco-Temple-Bryan DMA as defined by Nielsen. This means that unfortunately if you are in Grimes, Washington, Walker, Houston, Waller, Trinity, Austin, or Lee Counties, for example, you will not get KBTX on Dish Network. You will need to rely on cable or antenna. This isn’t a KBTX decision.

IS THERE ANYWAY AROUND THIS? Yes, though it's a “gray area.” If you own a residence in any county in the Waco-Temple-Bryan DMA and you receive your bill at that address, most likely you will be allowed to access KBTX from your location in the counties listed above. Check with your satellite provider for details.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: There are discussions going on now about which “arc” will transmit the KBTX signal. Until we have definitive information, we can’t answer that. What we DO know, is that current Dish customers will receive KBTX almost immediately when a clean signal is established.

DIRECTV STILL CARRIES KBTX. We are proud of our association with DirecTV. The same geographic carriage rules apply as with Dish.

Questions? Call us anytime. And remember, we are learning more about this everyday. We will update this information as it comes available including projected carriage dates on our web channel, kbtx.com.
