Karla Castillo joined KBTX in May 2009.

A California native, Karla moved to the Brazos Valley in 2005 to be a reporter at another television station. She worked there for nearly two-and-a-half years before taking some time off to start a family. She is excited to be back in the news business, and this time, as part of the region's news leader.

Karla graduated from San Jose State University in May 2004 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Political Science. While at SJSU, she worked on the school's award-winning student newscast, "Update News." There, she gained lots of hands-on experience working as a reporter, producer, anchor, photographer and editor.

That knowledge came in handy when she spent a summer interning with the sports department at KSAT in San Antonio. Karla had many wonderful opportunities that summer, including covering Bill Parcells' first training camp with the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs.

Karla's most memorable stories as a reporter include covering Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the 2006 NBA All-Star Game in Houston and several undercover stings with police.

When she's not working, Karla enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, and their son.
