Shel Winkley joined the KBTX weather team in October of 2009. Being a former KBTX intern, after graduating from Texas A&M University in 2007 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Meteorology, Shel took off to the CBS affiliate in Amarillo. Nothing makes him happier than being right back here in the Brazos Valley, but more importantly, Aggieland.
As a young kid, Shel was terrified of severe weather and tornadoes. However, several years and small Texas towns later, that fear transformed into a passion and he has been hooked on weather ever since. Shel's meteorology dreams started out as he entered college with the ambitions of becoming a meteorologist and a storm chaser, and he has hit the ground running ever since.
Shel feels privileged to be a part of the KBTX weather team as well as being able to bring you the weather everyday on Brazos Valley This Morning and News 3 at Noon. By the golden age of retirement, his main goal in life is to have the opportunity to fly through the eye of a hurricane.
Shel loves to meet new people and getting involved in the community. His two biggest passions in life are, of course, weather and anything that has to do with Texas A&M University. In his off time, you'll most likely find him cheering on the Aggies and staying an active member in the Aggie Network. Along with that he loves live music, playing racquetball, and disc golf.
