Official Opening Of Confucius Institute Is Monday
Thursday, April 24, 2008

Texas A&M President Elsa Murano and Consul General Qiao Hong, from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Houston, will officiate the opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute at Texas A&M at 5 p.m. Monday (April 28) at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center.

At the ceremony, James Chen, regional director - Asia/Pacific of Economic Development & Tourism at the Office of the Governor, will deliver a proclamation from Gov. Rick Perry to congratulate the university on opening the institute. A reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the lobby prior to the ceremony.

There will also be a Chinese Language Teaching Seminar at 1:30 p.m. at the conference center to encourage Chinese language education and global competence among students in Texas.

A book reading and signing by Jeffery A. Engel, author of “The China Diary of George H.W. Bush: The Making of a Global President” (Princeton University Press) will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the conference center. The events are open to the public.

Learning Chinese language is a good idea. But be careful what is the message behind the language. The Communist is attempting to use Confucius to spread its ideology.
