Texas A&M Elsa Murano did not comment Wednesday about key personnel changes at the top of the university.

Murano was at the event with Congressman Edwards, but did not take questions and left for Houston following her short remarks on the AgriLife program.

It was Monday that Murano announced the resignation of Vice President for Student Affairs Dean Bresciani after four years with A&M.

An internal e-mail obtained by News 3 indicated Bresciani was asked for his resignation.

In addition, the commandant of the Corps of Cadets, General John Van Alstyne, will now answer to President Murano. Previously, Van Alstyne answered to Bresciani's office.

The following is the memo sent by President Murano Monday:

“I would like to inform you of several organizational changes that are currently underway within the Division of Student Affairs at Texas A&M University. Dr. Dean Bresciani has announced his resignation as Vice President for Student Affairs in order to pursue other career opportunities, effective July 1, 2008.

“Dr. Bresciani has served Texas A&M in this capacity and as an adjunct member of our faculty since 2004. He has expanded many of the out-of-classroom experiences available to our students, while also laying the foundation for the future renovation of the Memorial Student Center among many other accomplishments.

“Please join me in thanking Dr. Bresciani for his service to Texas A&M and in extending our best wishes in his future endeavors.

“I have asked Dr. Dave Parrott, Associate Vice President and Dean of Student Life, to serve as Acting Vice President for Student Affairs until this position can be filled on a permanent basis in advance of the upcoming fall semester. I know that you will support Dr. Parrott during this time of transition.

“One of the key tenets of Vision 2020, our quest to become one of the top 10 public institutions of higher education in the country, is to enhance the undergraduate and graduate experience here at Texas A&M. I am committed to enriching the academics, traditions and values that combine to make our University a unique, yet unmatched educational experience for all students.

“Also, as part of these organizational changes, Lt. Gen. John Van Alstyne, Commandant of the Corps of Cadets, will now report directly to me. The Corps of Cadets is often referred to as the “keepers of the spirit” here at Texas A&M, and I could not agree more. I look forward to working directly with the Commandant and members of the Corps leadership as we work to preserve the traditions and values embodied within the Corps of Cadets and continue to support this vital component of the Aggie Family.”
