Illinois Senator and Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama hasn’t chosen his running mate yet, but it has been confirmed that Representative Chet Edwards' background was checked by Obama's campaign, meaning he is one of a few finalists for the job.

It was first suggested back in June by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that Edwards be considered for the job.

Obama is scheduled to announce who will be his Vice-President by or before August 23rd in Springfield, Illinois, and is expected to make the announcement through a text message.

Other potential finalists mentioned include Governor Tim Kaine of Virginia, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, Senator Joe Biden of Delaware, and Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana.

Edwards is a nine-term ranking member of Congress, and serves as a senior member of both the House Budget and Appropriations Committees.

Edwards is a Texas A&M graduate who earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School and served in the Texas Senate from 1983 to 1989 before winning election to Congress in 1990 in what then was the 11th District of Texas.

Too Bad he wasn't chosen. Empty Suit Barak, DUMB chet. They would have been a perfect team and we would have been rid of him. Too many Aggies don't investigate him. He is an Aggie in name only. He wanted nothing to do with us until he was redistricted, and we were put in his district. Aggies, wake up! The man is a fraud! He does not know what the truth is. But, he's nancy's lapdog.

To "NOone" I have to agree that liberal Chet has not been an enemy of gun owners. He has a "B" rating from the NRA. However, I believe we can do better than a "B". We should strive for an "A ". Barack Husein Obama has an NRA rating of "F". Joe Biden also has an NRA rating of "F". Barack wants to ban all handguns and he introduced legislation in the the Illinois state legislature that would have given burglars the right to sue a home owner that shoots them. I don't know about you, but I am terrified by the fact that Edwards would even allow himself to be considered by someone that holds those views. I am of the belief that this district can do much better than Chet Edwards. We need an "A " candidate to run against Edwards. I could care less which party the person comes from as long as they have an "A " from the NRA. As a lifelong conservative, I have found that when I vote for the NRA "A" candidates all the other issues I care about just seem to fall right in place.

He has done some good work on gun rights. The NRA has a good rating on him. No I am not a DEM. I am a member of the RNC and NRA. I still will be voting GOP.

If you like giving money away, this would be a good choice. I earned my money, I want to keep it and spend it how I see fit. I don't want Obama/Edwards taking my money to give to one of the millions of problems the goverment wants to solve even when it's not their role.

Chet has always and will always be a closet ultra-liberal....typical politician. Say one thing to get elected but then when office do just the opposite. He is Pelosi's (please someone KILL her) puppet. Her thinking is that Hussein Oboma can wim Texas if Chet is on the ticket. Well he can if you people don't wake up and realize that Chet is a liberal idiot who has done nothing for anyone here in central Texas. But who cares the yankees up north have never even heard of him so the republicans will have a field day with this selection.....Will T. Kenedy ever DIE???????

Since Chet has been elected NINE times to Congress, I guess most of you early posters below are the whining minority who didn't vote for him?

It is amazing to me that Edwards has ever been elected to represent this district. He is a two-faced, typical politician - says one thing to constituents and does another thing in Washinton. He is suported by the hollow-eyed, San Fran, hippie Speaker of the House (9% approval rating) What a loser!

Republican equals greed, bigotry, selfishness, self-righteousness and racism. Everyone knows it. Just say it! Buh-bye White House.

Kyle, Say one thing and do another? How about "we do not torture?","Saddam was involved with 9/11", "I will fire anyone in my administration that leaked CIA identities". Mr. Pot, Mr. Kettle called and left you a message...

Too bad if picked he doesn't have to resign his seat in congress, that would kill two birds with one stone. Can't stand some who gives my money away.

Posted by: LW Location: Bryan on Aug 22, 2008 at 02:56 PM
I can't believe Congressman Edwards would consider this situation.

Posted by: bright side Location: BCS on Aug 22, 2008 at 02:31 PM
Well, if he is picked and the unthinkable happens and Obama is elected, at least our district will be rid of him finally.

I wonder if Old John thinks that the U.S. military is surrendering to the terrorists now that they have signed off on the Iraq pull-out plan. Maybe next year he can repatriate to the nation of Georgia and take command of a crack Georgian special ops unit to ride into Iraq and really give it to the terrorists. Cindy can buy him a Napoleon hat and a grand steed.

if he pick anybody other than hillary, he will loose alot of dem votes. split the party, she has alot of supporters who think she is getting a bad deal.

Posted by: Kyle Location: Bryan on Aug 22, 2008 at 01:38 PM
This won't be a popular opinion since too many people around B/CS are enamored with Edwards, but Edwards and Obama would be a perfect fit; two empty suits who say one thing and then do another.
