AUSTIN -- Gov. Rick Perry Thursday announced his new chief of staff is a deputy chancellor at Texas A&M and former aide to Attorney General Greg Abbott.
Jay Kimbrough, a former deputy attorney general and conservator of the Texas Youth Commission, is a decorated Vietnam veteran and Dallas native.
He's also served as Bee County judge.
Kimbrough, who has previously worked in Perry's office, replaces Brian Newby as the governor prepares for the 2009 legislative session.
Newby and former Harris County Judge Robert Eckels this week were chosen by Perry to help lead a state effort to assess damage from Hurricane Ike and seek federal help.
