Spring break is about halfway over for the students at Texas A&M but not all of them are out soaking up the sun this week.
While some students spend their week away at a tropical destination, over 100 hundred members of the Aggie Greeks went to the bayou.
But this trip wasn't about cashing it in at a casino or eating a bunch of crawfish, it was about helping those who have been suffering for the 4 years since Hurricane Rita.
"It was bad. It's something you can't really describe. Everything was totally wet. It messed up my roof and it put a couple of trees through the trailer," said Louisiana resident Dale Howell.
Howell's home was badly damaged during Hurricane Rita. But thanks to a group of sorority sisters and fraternity brothers from Texas A&M, that's all about to change.
"It's a God sent blessing really," said Howell.
Over the spring break week, the Aggie Greeks are working on several homes in the Lake Charles area including Howell's.
"It's just amazing how from the heart people can be. It's totally amazing. It's a blessing all the way around really," said Howell.
The students are putting a much needed roof over the Vietnam vet's trailer and he is looking forward to moving back home.
"They have done a fantastic job. Everybody is working together and they're accomplishing so much. I'm so thankful for that. I really am," said Howell.
Dale has had the materials to work on his roof for three years right in his front yard. But after suffering injuries from a car accident a few years back, he is unable to put it above his trailer.
"If I get the roof on, I've got it made. That's the main thing. If I got the roof, I'll be thankful for that," said Howell.
"One thing about these college kids, if you don't have something for them to do, they get aggravated. They feel that if they came down here to work, you need to keep them busy," said Louisiana native Henry Belsha.
Belsha is part of UMCOR and is overseeing the Aggies work and stay in Lake Charles.
"To me, this is an exceptional bunch. I really have enjoyed being with them and what I've really been impressed with is their attitudes," said Belsha.
"This is a lot more important I feel like. You can go out on spring break and go out with your friends at any time," said A&M Junior Kelsey Griffin.
Griffin is working on home in the north side of Lake Charles. It requires a complete overhaul of sheet rock, new siding, new window and a handicap ramp.
"I mean this guy kept saying how he didn't deserve it but he didn't deserve what happened to his house either," said Griffin.
With the Texas country music blaring in the middle of Louisiana, the students have made an incredible example of what it means to give back. So much so that Mr. Belsha, who has lived in cajun country for over 70 years sees hope in our nation's future.
"We appreciate the heck out of these kids. I call them kids because they're younger than me but to me, they are exceptional. And I even think that they may can run this country one day," said Belsha.

Nice to see our Aggie Greeks get the good press they deserve - fraternities and sororities are primarily about service to others -its too bad that all they are seen for is their parties and poor decisions!
This was a heartwarming story. Those A&M students will be blessed for spending their break helping those people in need. I am very proud of them.
