Open during Robertson County Carnegie Library hours

Robertson County Carnegie Library Franklin, Texas
"The Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker Exhibit, A Woman OF Two Worlds and a Man IN Two Worlds.” is a traveling exhibit of rarely seen photos of Quanah and Cynthia Ann Parker. The photo exhibit will be on display from September 9 to October 16 at the Robertson County Carnegie Library in Franklin, Texas. A special open house will be from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, October 3.

Cynthia Ann and Quanah Parker are two important names in U.S. frontier history. Much can be learned from the dramatic story of these two courageous individuals. In 1836, a Comanche raiding party took Cynthia Ann from her family .Over the following years, she became wife to a Comanche chief and mother to children, including Quanah. After Cynthia Ann was taken back by Texas Rangers, Quanah became one of the most important Comanche leaders both in war and peace.

The photo exhibit tells this story of the lives of these two persons caught between two different worlds. The Lakes Trail Region views this traveling exhibit as a way to educate visitors about their lives.

Several individuals and organizations are involved in this effort. Douglas Harman, board member of the Lakes Trail Region and Clara Ruddell, Historic Photograph Research and Consulting, worked with the Lakes Trail Program to put this exhibit together. Clara Ruddell is the principal researcher assembling the photo materials. The Redstone Visual Impression Company, through its graphic designer Paula Abney, created the exhibit materials for display. Many organizations and individuals have assisted in making available photos and information which have gone into the creation of the exhibit. Special recognition must be given to the Comanche Nation and the many members of the Parker family for keeping this story alive and sharing materials and information. Ben Tahmahkera, great great grandson of Quanah, has provided special inspiration for the project. This exhibit is the beginning of an effort to bring more attention to the important Native American heritage in our region. The exhibit is sponsored by The Texas Trail of Fame.

The Texas Lakes Trail Region is one of the ten Heritage Trail Regions created through the Texas Historical Commission.

For more information about the exhibit and program, the following people can be contacted: Jill Campbell, Executive Director of the Lakes Trail Program at 817-559-2288, or Melanie Redden, Robertson County Carnegie Library Librarian at 979-828-4331.

Landon McGee & Friends

7pm

Bryan
Landon McGee is a singer-songwriter who hails from Central Texas. His first album, “Kite”, is inspired by birds as a metaphor for human life, namely, the life of the soul. While it’s true that much of our time is spent eating and sleeping and trudging, our deepest life, the life of the soul, happens in narrative arcs that are not unlike the flight patterns of birds. Landon creates much of his music in the confine of a dorm room, after numerous quiet hours spent alone. Landon’s shared musical journey has just begun to take flight- don’t miss it.

Premium packages are offered to groups of 4 or 10. These exclusive packages include a private bar, a lounge seating area, as well as access to the second and third deck of The Grand Stafford Theater.

Erik Willis: In a time when many artists are striving to find their identity, Erick Willis is slowly leaving his mark on the scene, with a personality that is true and not just a stage persona. Taking cues from the music he was raised on Erick is blending soulful melodic lyrics, with the deep groove of roots-rock and as his lyric says, “with some of the harder stuff.” Showcasing a smooth voice with an excellent upper register, uniquely gravely at times, and always pleasant to the ear, Erick is bringing lots of soul to the mix, along with undeniably Texas inspired lyrics.

Christopher Crow: Talented local musician Christopher Crow shows his southern roots playing Alternative Blues with a flare that is sure to please the crowd every time.

7pm

Bryan
General Admission is, as always, free! These premium options are an exclusive way to enjoy the concert.

The Feeble Contenders, a five piece rock band from Central Texas, are no strangers to the Alternative Rock Scene. Initially a solo act of frontman’s Joshua Sisco, the band came into their own with the addition of Alex Knoll and Marco Pisterzi in late 2011, with Nic Shields and Michael Martin following soon after. They released their first EP in 2013 entitled “Circles”, an album brooding with songs about family, substance abuse, and losing faith. The band is currently writing their first full length album “Frightening Youth” set to release in Fall 2015, and planning their first full US summer tour.

Pudge and Haley are local residents who both share a passion for music. While Haley enjoys singing, Pudge loves playing various instruments such as the guitar. The two paired up while in school at Texas A&M and began writing and creating songs. These Aggies have been producing music since March of 2014, and hope to share their passion for music with you.
