Event Dates and Times

Art Forum of Waco 1826 Morrow Ave Waco, TX 76707
Each year House Members are invited to present an ornament depicting what makes their Texas House District special. These will be displayed on a 20’ Christmas tree in the Texas Capitol and seen by thousands of holiday visitors. This year’s tree will be on display December 4th to January 3rd.

For the 2015 tree, Waco Artist Brian Broadway painted a striking image of local WWII hero, Doris Miller, on behalf of District 56. Broadway, whose studio is based in Art Forum of Waco, narrowly escaped loosing his paintings in an arson attack back in early September.

“The arts community rallied round to support us, cleaning the smoke damaged areas and saving valuable art. This ornament is my tribute to a community that knows how to pull together for good.”

Broadway is also referring to community efforts that in 2015 have led to the designation of the Waco Mammoth Site as a National Monument and the groundbreaking for the Doris Miller Memorial, for example. “This is a City that can do great things when many people work together”, he said.

District 56 State Representative, Charles “Doc” Anderson described how the ornament will not only be displayed on this year’s tree, but will be kept as part of a permanent collection depicting what makes communities throughout Texas unique.

“2015 has been a great year for Waco and this wonderful piece of art symbolizes some of the values that make our community special – courage, leadership, hard work, and sacrifice”.

Detailed photographs and ornament descriptions are compiled into an annual ornament album that can be viewed either in the House Chamber, while the tree is on display, or year-round on
the House website.

Broadway will present the ornament at 1pm on Thursday 12th November at Art Forum of Waco, 1826 Morrow Ave, Waco, TX 76707
