Hansel and Gretel by Carranza Puppets

followed by the Festival Hill Open House

Performed by Carranza Puppets of Houston, "Hansel and Gretel" is based on the classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm published in 1812. Hansel and Gretel are a young brother and sister threatened by a witch living deep in the forest in a house constructed of cake and confectionery. The two children save their lives by outwitting her. The marionette show is sure to entertain the children while teaching important lessons including problem solving and the value of teamwork.

Following the concert, join fellow concertgoers for the annual Festival Hill Open House in the Victorian-style Menke House. Enjoy a variety of cookies, beverages and other festive Christmas treats and mingle with friends in the spirit of the season.

General seating. Tickets will be held at the will call table on the West side of the concert hall. Doors open 1 hour prior to the show. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The Nutcracker Ballet

Round Top Festival Institute will once again present an encore performance of Tchaikovsky's holiday classic, The Nutcracker. This year's production celebrates the 8th annual performance danced by Ovation, a youth ballet company in residency at Dancers Workshop in Austin. The full length ballet will be one show only at the Festival Concert Hall in Round Top on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 4 pm.

The performance of The Nutcracker will include a cast of 77 dancers ranging from second grade through high school along with guest actor, Chris Ehresman as the mysterious Herr Drosselmeyer. This year's production will include 11 young dancers from the local area. The children hail from Round Top, La Grange, Columbus and Weimar. The local dancers are ballet students at Saltare Studio in La Grange. These dedicated dancers travel to Austin every Saturday to rehearse with Ovation Ballet Company members who are all students at Dancers Workshop.

The ballet includes dancing party guests, menacing rats, soldiers brandishing candy canes, graceful snowflakes, the handsome Nutcracker Prince and the most famous holiday favorite, the Sugar Plum Fairy. Act I includes the addition of a new set piece - a magical grandfather clock which will intrigue and delight.

Tickets for the ballet are $30 for adults and $15 for students. Purchase tickets online or call the office at 979-249-3129. All seating is general admission. Groups of 20 or more who pay for their tickets with one purchase receive a discount. For group discounts, please call the office.

Thelma finds the last snowball cupcake in the fridge; Jessie asks for some black plastic bags; and it's on their schedule that Jessie will give Thelma a manicure. This is the poignant story of Mrs. Watts, an aging widow living with her son and daughter-in-law in a three-room flat in Houston, Texas.
Mrs. Watts imagines that if she can get away and return to her old home in the town of Bountiful, she is sure to regain her strength, dignity and peace of mind. So she attempts to run away, and when she reaches a bus station on the last part of her short journey.
When her son and daughter-in-law appear on the scene to take her back to Houston, she consents to return quietly, secure in the knowledge that the remainder of her existence will be enriched as a result of her last contact with Bountiful.

A group of strangers, one of whom is a murderer, are stranded in a boarding house during a snow storm. The suspects include the newly married couple who run the house, and the suspicions that are in their minds nearly wreck their perfect marriage. Others are a spinster with a curious background, an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef, a retired Army major, a strange little man who claims his car has overturned in a drift, and a jurist who makes life miserable for everyone. Into their midst comes a policeman, traveling on skis. He no sooner arrives, than the jurist is killed. Two down, and one to go. To get to the rationale of the murderer's pattern, the policeman probes the background of everyone present, and rattles a lot of skeletons.
