Benefit Chili Cook-Off and Silent Auction

Living Hope Baptist Church 4170 State Hwy 6 South College Station, TX 77845
Hannah Henry's family and friends are uniting to raise money to pay for a trained Diabetes Alert Dog. Support of any amount is appreciated!!

The goal is to raise $15,000

Everyone is invited to an exciting fundraiser to help Hannah Henry bring home a Diabetes Alert Dog. There will be lots of delicious chili to taste, many items available in the Silent Auction, lots of fellowship, and special entertainment! There will also be two Diabetes Alert Dogs in attendance with their owners, available for any questions you may have.

Hannah is the 14 year old daughter of Mark and Melodi Henry, parents of 8 children, and long-time residents of College Station. Type 1 Diabetes is a very complicated disease with many factors that must be assessed, reassessed, and dealt with every single day for the rest of her life. Hannah was diagnosed at age 6 and is now 14, in 8th grade at College Station Middle School, and very active as a percussionist in band. We are all familiar with service dogs for blind people, but you may not know that there are service dogs for diabetics! Not only that, but we will be able to participate in a new program called "Board and Train," so that Hannah can have her dog much sooner than the traditional wait of approximately 2 years!!

Hannah's Diabetes Alert Dog (DAD) will smell her blood sugar changes and alert her BEFORE a blood sugar crisis becomes life-threatening! This will allow all of us to rest easier at night, knowing that Hannah will be safe while we are sleeping. It will also allow constant monitoring at school and everywhere Hannah goes! Her dog will keep alerting her until the blood sugar is corrected or until she has the help she needs!

Hannah is one of the Type 1 Diabetics who suffers seizures with rapidly dropping blood sugar. During a seizure, she may become unable to drink a sugary drink or even ask for help from another person. Since being diagnosed at age 6, Hannah has had at least 20 seizures, some during her sleep when she is unaware of a dropping blood sugar. This has happened as recently as the week of March 23rd. With a DAD, our hope is that we can head off these episodes before they ever occur.

Donations may be made any time from now until May 17th, either through our online fundraiser or through donations sent directly to the following address: Hannah Henry’s DAD, 3827 Springfield Dr., College Station, TX, 77845. Donations will also be accepted at the Chili Cook-Off, which promises to be a fun event with special
entertainment!!

Help Hannah Henry get a Diabetes Alert Dog!!

Living Hope Baptist Church, College Station, TX
Chili Cook-Off and Silent Auction Fundraiser to help raise $15,000 for Hannah Henry to have a Diabetes Alert Dog (DAD). Hannah is the 14 year old daughter of Mark and Melodi Henry, long-time College Station residents, and parents of 8 children. Hannah was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 6 and suffers from seizures when her blood sugar drops too low and/or too rapidly. A Diabetes Alert Dog is a specially trained service dog who can alert the owner to a blood sugar change, either too low or too high, and allow time for life-saving measures to be taken. Brooks Labradors in Lucas, TX, is a nationally known top breeder and trainer of DADs. Hannah's family and friends are uniting together to raise the necessary funds to make this dream a reality. Donations may be made online at http://gfwd.at/1i8Txdb or you can join the Facebook Event titled, "Help Hannah Henry get a Diabetes Alert Dog."
