Black Pistol Fire CD Release Show w/The Docs & Dames

Grand Stafford Theater. 106 S Main St. Bryan, TX 77803
Tickets $10 in advance/$12 at the door. Available online now

Black Pistol Fire is a Canadian Rock and Roll duo that split’s time between Toronto, Ontario and Austin, Texas. Their wild and energetic rock-and-roll sound has been described as a mix of classic southern rock and garage punk, garnering comparisons to early Kings of Leon, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Black Keys, and Clutch. It’s clear that the band’s sound spans many different eras and sub-genres, relying on a classic rock and roll sound that has been updated for our modern times.

When The Docs are playing, the sheer energy coming from the stage will pull you in, and the aura they create in the room will keep you riveted. Pulling from a wide range of influences and diverse backgrounds, they evoke the full range of emotion in their audiences with a raw, passionate sound that fuses the soft, harmonious tones of traditional Southern music and the aggressive energy of progressive rock. This is a tight-but-loose four-piece band that stretches and pushes the boundaries of current rock and roll. But The Docs didn’t start out as a high energy, in-your-face modern rock band. Each member brought his musical influences and professional background to the mix.

Dames, a newly formed garage/psych rock trio, creates raw energy through undeniable tone and fuzz to challenge the very word itself. By shaping their songs with catchy hooks and irresistible rhythm that builds up to a climax of musical excitement leaves the listener only wanting more. Dames certainly brings a heavily cultured style with fast-paced, bluesy riffs and choppy tones to distinguish a sound unlike another.

David Ramirez w/Elle King

Grand Stafford Theater. 106 S Main St. Bryan, TX 77803
Tickets $10 in advance/$12 at door. Available online now

David Ramirez

A man and his guitar… honest, unfiltered and true. In a landscape filled with Top 40 beats and harmonizing folk groups, a lone singer- songwriter definitely has his work cut out for him. But David Ramirez isn’t looking to top the charts. He just wants to tell the truth. “I grew up on 90′s alternative radio. It was fun and easy. In college someone gave me a Ryan Adams record, which led me to discover folks like Bob Dylan. From those guys I learned about the power of words and melody and their ability to affect change in people. That honesty made me want to connect with people through music”. Being just as drawn to artists like Dylan and Adams as he is to The National and Arcade Fire is perhaps what draws both young college crowds and folk traditionalists to his live shows. David Ramirez knows no luxury. All he needs is an acoustic guitar and the words in his mouth to share his story. One that is honest, unfiltered and true.

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Elle King may be just 23 years old, but she’s already got quite a story to tell. Born in rural Ohio, she moved to New York City at age 10 — “there was definitely a big difference going from climbing trees barefoot to taking the subway by myself,” she says. After getting kicked out of school, she headed to California, then returned to New York, and then Philadelphia for art college. Since then, King’s home base went from Copenhagen back to LA before finally settling down in New York, where she has recorded one of the most exciting and unique debut projects of recent years.

Quiet Company & The Rocketboys w/The Lonely Hunter & Scientist

Grand Stafford Theater. 106 S Main St. Bryan, TX 77803
Tickets $10 in advance/$12 at door. Available online now

The Austin, TX band, Quiet Company has been making a name for themselves nationally for their energetic live shows and their anthemic, dynamic, indie-rock — which critics have called a mix of The Beatles, Death Cab for Cutie, Arcade Fire & Weezer — with attention from the likes of the NY Times, Paste Magazine, NPR (Top 5 Bands to See at SXSW), Last Call with Carson Daly, Houston Chronicle, Austin Chronicle and more. During SXSW 2012, Quiet Company won 10 Austin Music Awards including Band of the Year, Album of the Year, Rock Band of the Year, Indie Band of the Year and Song of the Year. After an amazing year on the road with festivals including NXNE, CMJ, ACL Fest and more, the band is excited to be back home in Austin recording their highly anticipated new full-length, Transgressor, which will be released Summer 2014.

The Lonely Hunter is a rock band originally from College Station, TX. Despite the town’s profound country music background, The Lonely Hunter has developed an original sound that has drawn crowds all over Texas. Most of the guys hail from the Dallas area and have spent their younger years around the big city scene. Now that they are in Central Texas, these guys have been a driving force in the local scene, and have begun to branch out into the surrounding cities. Their sound can be defined by their beautiful melodic textures.

Scientist is from deep in the heart of Texas. In early 2011, Brandon DuBois and Jesse Schaefer began writing their debut, World EP. Inspired by The Killers and Passion Pit, the record consists of five songs that are pop rock to the core and wrapped with an electronic bow. The Scientist boys can be found in the Mobile Lab on tour promoting World EP with their captivating live show, complete with instrument switches, electronic breaks, and crowd participation.

Penny and Sparrow w/Elenowen & Votary

Grand Stafford Theater. 106 S Main St. Bryan, TX 77803
Tickets $8 in advance/$10 at the door. Available online now

Penny and Sparrow are Andy Baxter and Kyle Jahnke, from the heart of Texas. Previously roommates, the duo makes music influenced by The Swell Season, Bon Iver, Mumford and Sons, and others. They also love musicals.

It’s called ‘chemistry’, an elusive quality that can be part history, part mystery and all intangible until the moment that you feel it. It’s a meant-to-be melding of the emotional and creative that can happen between songwriters, performers, best friends or life partners. For Josh and Nicole Johnson – the duo Elenowen – that connection is all of the above and much more. The chemistry they share is as rare – and real – as it gets. Amidst haunting harmonies and elegiac lyrics, their songs flow with an undercurrent of yearning, surrender and unexpectedly sharp edges. The sound itself is roots-driven. For Elenowen, it’s a one-of-a-kind formula that is about to become bigger than the both of them.

Votary is a contemporary pop band hailing from College Station, TX. Soon after becoming a full band, Votary won the Texas A&M Battle of the Bands competition and quickly began gaining popularity in the Bryan/College Station area. In the Spring of 2013 Votary released their debut album “Ground Beneath Us” which included the popular single “Hey Teresa” . Votary is currently focused on writing and recording new material for their next EP set to release in the Spring of 2014. Recently Votary has had an extensive live performance schedule including opening for David Ramirez, Tim Halperin, and Green River Ordinance! Votary’s sound has been compared to Ben Rector, Parachute, Matt Nathanson, and Ben Folds. The band includes: Jack Thweatt – Vocals/Guitar, Travis Thompson – Keyboard, Michael Burgess – Bass, Conner Wright – Drums.

Cherub w/Carousel & ProbCause

Grand Stafford Theater. 106 S Main St. Bryan, TX 77803
Tickets $10 in advance/$12 at the door. Available online now

Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber take their fun very, very seriously. The pair behind the ambitious and emphatic Nashville duo Cherub craft hooky electro-pop that lyrically captures the risque, pleasure-seeking impulses of their youth, while their studio expertise results in grooves so alluring, even your parents can dance to them.

With a polished sound that spans far outside the boundaries of hip-hop- ProbCause seamlessly jumps from dubstep – to glitch-hop- to R&B than back to a classic boom-bap gritty rap sound. With stories that make you reminisce and a percussive delivery that highlights his unique production ProbCause is one of the most exciting and versatile touring acts.
