Concert Pianist Michael Finlay returns to College Station!

Come take part in an evening of thrilling and beautiful piano music! Michael Finlay, an accomplished concert pianist and a native of Bryan, Texas, is returning to his hometown for the first time in nearly a decade to perform a recital of some of his favorite music! On the program: Prokofiev 4th Sonata, Beethoven Sonata in E-flat Major Op. 81a, "Les Adieux," Chopin Barcarolle, and Ravel Gaspard de la Nuit. September 27, 2014 (Austin, TX) – The Brazos Valley Country Music Festival announced today that Jamey Johnson and Pat Green will both be performing on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the spectacular Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater in College Station, TX. They will be supported by Chris Hennessee.

Multi-talented CMA Award-winning Country music outlaw Jamey Johnson, who won the 2009 CMA Song of the Year with “In Color,” off his Grammy nominated album That Lonesome Song, will be making his first appearance in College Station, TX.

In Texas, especially in Aggie Nation, San Antonio native Pat Green needs no introduction. This Grammy-nominated hit maker, who rocks arena and stadium stages with the likes of Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney, has sold over 255,000 independently released records since 1995.

Jamey Johnson’s latest album, the 2012 duet tribute album to songwriter Hank Cochran titled Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran, paired him performing with acts such as Ray Price, Willie Nelson, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, George Strait, Vince Gill, and Merle Haggard, earning him his third Grammy nomination in 2013. Johnson was also nominated in 2009 for the CMA’s “New Artist of the Year,” and in 2010 for the Academy of Country Music’s “Top New Solo Vocalist.” In addition to his own material, Johnson has co-written singles for such stars as Trace Adkins, George Strait, James Otto, Joe Nichols and Jessie James.

Pat Green has a new album finished and fans got a taste of it on September 2, 2014, when premiered the official lyric video for "Girls from Texas," featuring Lyle Lovett. The "Girls from Texas" is now available on iTunes. Brazos Valley Country Music Festival-goers may even get a sneak taste of Green’s new tunes before the album is released.

Touring regularly with Jamey Johnson, Tennessee singer-songwriter Chris Hennessee's songs have appeared on records like Billy Currington’s A Little Bit Of Everything as well as albums by Kevin Fowler, Corey Morrow, Tate Stevens and Rodney Carrington. Recently a song he co-wrote with The Wild Feathers titled "Hennessee," was featured on the hit TV show "Nashville.”

Festival-goers will find food and beer concessions available, as well as artesian and craft vendors. Folding lawn chairs, small umbrellas (under 14”), ice chests with ice only and non-professional cameras are allowed. Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra presents "Civil War Tribute"

Rudder Theatre on Texas A&M Campus, College Station
Brigadier General Joe E. Ramirez, Jr., Commandant of the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets, narrates Copland's inspiring Lincoln Portrait as part of the finale of the BVSO's 2014-2015 season. This concert is a tribute to the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. Under the direction of Maestro Bussiki, the orchestra will also perform the moving melodies furnished by the film scores of Gettysburg and Lincoln. Everyone will recognize Ashokan Farewell by Ungar as the musical backdrop played throughout Ken Burn’s PBS series The Civil War.

Described by The Washington Post as performing with “dazzling bravura and poetic insight”, pianist James Dick will bring the powerful themes and the heroic notes of Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto to life. The BVSO and Maestro Bussiki will also perform Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture. A great Mozart scholar once wrote that Mozart had compressed “all the struggle and victory of mankind” into this overture. Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, a continued mystery as to why he failed to complete it, offers a poetic close to evening’s program. Music program:

Experience the excitement and relive the exploits of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker as the BVSO performs John Williams’ iconic Star Wars score. The BVSO and the Texas A&M Century Singers then join forces to perform Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass. The multimedia finale, “Icarus at the Edge of Time” tells the story of a young man who runs away from his deep-space home to explore a black hole. Guest narrator, Dr. Brian Greene, is considered one of the foremost string theorists in the world. You might even recognize him from his guest appearance on the “The Big Bang Theory”.

This special concert is planned in conjunction with the Physics and Engineering Festival presented by the Texas A&M Physics & Astronomy and Aerospace Engineering Departments.

Maestro Marcelo Bussiki will conduct a dramatic and exciting tour de force with the BVSO’s world-class percussion section opens this concert as they perform Russell Peck’s The Glory and the Grandeur. After intermission, over 300 musicians take the stage to perform one of the most popular works ever written for chorus and orchestra, Carmina Burana. Composer Carl Orff said shortly after the premiere, "Everything I have written to date, and which you have, unfortunately, printed, can be destroyed. With Carmina Burana, my collected works begin."
