This concert is a tribute to the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War. Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra presents "James Dick Unleashes The Emperor"

Rudder Theatre on Texas A&M Campus, College Station
Described by The Washington Post as performing with “dazzling bravura and poetic insight”, pianist James Dick will bring the powerful themes and the heroic notes of Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto to life. The BVSO and Maestro Bussiki will also perform Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture. A great Mozart scholar once wrote that Mozart had compressed “all the struggle and victory of mankind” into this overture. Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, a continued mystery as to why he failed to complete it, offers a poetic close to evening’s program. Music program:

Overture from The Magic Flute, K. 620

Symphony No. 8, B minor, D. 759 (Unfinished Symphony)

Piano Concerto No. 5, E-flat major, Op. 73

The multimedia finale, “Icarus at the Edge of Time” tells the story of a young man who runs away from his deep-space home to explore a black hole. Guest narrator, Dr. Brian Greene, is considered one of the foremost string theorists in the world. You might even recognize him from his guest appearance on the “The Big Bang Theory”.

This special concert is planned in conjunction with the Physics and Engineering Festival presented by the Texas A&M Physics & Astronomy and Aerospace Engineering Departments.
