Farm Sanctuary President and Co-Founder Gene Baur to Speak at Texas A&M University

College Station, TX – October 22, 2012 – Hear Farm Sanctuary President and Co-founder Gene Baur speak about the consequences of factory farming and his national best-seller Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds about Animals and Food. Gene’s book will be available for sale and he will be on hand to sign copies! This event is free and open to the public.

ABOUT GENE BAUR:
Gene Baur has been hailed as “the conscience of the food movement” by TIME magazine. For 25 years he has traveled extensively, campaigning to raise awareness about the abuses of industrialized farming and our cheap food system. His achievements include helping pass the first U.S. laws to protect animals on farms, winning the first-ever cruelty conviction at a U.S. stockyard, and opening the country’s first shelters for abused and neglected farm animals. His work to champion farm animal protection has garnered the support of celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Alec Baldwin, Martha Stewart, and Chevy Chase, and made headlines around the world, including numerous stories in The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Washington Post, and USA Today. He has appeared on countless television and radio programs, including NBC, CBS, ABC, “The Larry King Show,” “The Martha Stewart Show,” and various programs on CNN and the Fox News Channel.

Sexual Assault Resource Center's Advocate Training

Sexual Assault Resource Center
The class is open to individuals interested in serving as advocates for survivors of sexual assault, their family members and loved ones.

Advocates staff the 24-hour crisis hotline as well as accompany sexual assault survivors to local hospitals, law enforcement agencies, and court proceedings.

Participants will complete a course covering the legal and medical arenas of sexual assault, as well as crisis intervention techniques and more. Upon completion of the 40 hour course, advocates are certified through the Office of Attorney General.

Advocates must be at least 18 years of age, submit an application, come into the office for an interview, and pass a background check. Advocates are requested to make a 6 month commitment to the center and sign up for 2-3 hotline or escort shifts per month. Advocates are able to answer the phone from their home as all calls are forwarded from the center to either a landline or mobile phone.
