Free French Movie, "The Hedgehog"

Oct 7, 2012 2 - 3:45 PM

Larry J. Ringer Library, 1818 Harvey Mitchell Pkwy. S., College Station, TX 77845
FREE MOVIE (The Hedgehog), to be shown in French with English subtitles. This film is based on Muriel Barbery's best-selling novel, "The Elegance of the Hedgehog". It is about an 11-year-old girl who has decided to kill herself on her upcoming 12th birthday. Using her father's camcorder to chronicle the hypocrisy of adults, Paloma begins to learn about life from the grumpy building concierge. When Paloma's camera reveals the extensive secret library in the concierge's back room, and that the often gruff matron reads Tolstoy to her cat, Paloma begins to understand that there are allies to be found beneath the prickliest of exteriors. As the unlikely friendship deepens, Paloma's own coming of age becomes a much less pessimistic prospect. "The Hedgehog" won the 2010 COL-COA Film Festival in Los Angeles, Best of Fest at the 2011 Palm Springs International Film Festival, and Audience Awards at the 2010 Seattle International Film Festival and at Filmfest DC 2010. The film is approximately 100 minutes long. The library will be showing it twice, once on Wednesday, October 3rd at 5:00 p.m. and once on Sunday, October 7th at 2:00 p.m.
