Unitarian Universalist Church: The Crisis of Civilization

Unitarian Universalist Church of the Brazos Valley at 305 Wellborn Road in College Station, TXThe Crisis of Civilization is a documentary feature film investigating how global crises like ecological disaster, financial meltdown, dwindling oil reserves, and terrorism and food shortages are converging symptoms of a single, failed global system. It will be shown at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Brazos Valley at 305 Wellborn Road in College Station, TX on Thursday, 7 March at 6:30 pm. The film is based on A User's Guide to the Crisis of Civilization: And How to Save it, a well-researched, well-reasoned, engaging and powerful book by Nafeez Ahmed, the Executive Director of the Institute for Policy Research and Development.
The 77-minute film reveals how a failure to understand the systemic context of these crises, linked to neoliberal ideology, has generated a tendency to deal not with their root structural causes, but only with their symptoms. This has led to the proliferation of war, terror, and state-terror, including encroachment on civil liberties, while accelerating global crises rather than solving them. The real solution, Nafeez argues, is to recognize the inevitability of civilizational change, and to work toward a fundamental systemic transformation based on more participatory forms of living, politically, economically and culturally.
The solution is possible if people choose to become educated and to engage in intentional communities. The low-budget film is available to stream online without charge at http://crisisofcivilization.com/

SEAD GalleryBrazos Glassworks is proud to announce a Student Art Glass Show in celebration of Youth Art Month (YAM). March is National Youth Art Month. The Show will be held March 1-9, 2013, in downtown Bryan at the SEAD Gallery located in the historic Federal Building on 26th Street. The show features the work of students in local Bryan and College Station schools. The art pieces will include fused, slumped, and stained glass, as well as glass mosaics. Students will be competing for ribbons and for glass art prize packages for their art teacher’s classrooms. SEAD Gallery hours are Tues - Sat 10am-6pm.
