NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Jerry Reed sounded like a good ol' boy when he sang. That's who he usually played in the movies. Reed died Tuesday of complications from emphysema. He was 71. As a singer in the 1970s and early 1980s, he had a string of hits, including "Amos Moses," "When You're Hot, You're Hot," and "East Bound and Down." In the mid-1970s, he "went around the corner to motion pictures" and began acting. He was in "Smokey and the Bandit" with Burt Reynolds. He switched from his good ol' boy routine to play an ornery heavy in "Gator" and a hateful coach in "The Waterboy." Reed once told The Tennessean newspaper that his acting ability was questionable. He said he "used to watch people like Richard Burton and Mel Gibson and
think, `I could never do that."' He said "When people ask me what my motivation is, I have a simple answer: 'money."'
