The Tues./Thurs. 5th grade PE class at Henderson Elementary school is unique! They come to class at 8:30 in the morning ready to participate with energy and enthusiasm. Each PE day they run 2 laps around the jogging trail which is equivalent to 1/2 mile. Every student in class does this each time without walking or stopping. They have built up their endurance through encouraging each other. Each time they run, they work to better their time. As they see their slower classmates struggling, the faster students will run out to the slower students to help them by running with them and encouraging them along the way after they have finished their laps.
The class has a life skills special student that they have taken under their wing. Classmates watch out for her and encourage her. If she is on their team and doesn't play up to their ability, they encourage her with a high five and don't get upset with her for not winning a point. Many times, if they compete against her they allow her to be the winner.
