The Brazos County Commissioners Court unanimously voted Tuesday to approve a 60 day burn ban for Brazos County.
The vote is partly in response to several fires across the area over the past 24 hours.
Emergency Management Coordinator Chuck Frazier spoke on behalf of fire chiefs across Brazos County when he recommended the commissioners court pass the ban.
"I actually heard back from five of the six chiefs, and all five of them thought it was time to put a ban in place," said Frazier.
A fire on Monday in College Station forced emergency crews to shut down parts of the Highway 6 near FM 2818 in order to douse a roadside blaze.
The burn ban is effective immediately.
Brazos County joins Milam, Grimes, Washington, Austin, Waller, and Montgomery Counties who also have activated burn bans in response to dry and windy conditions.
