ROBERTSON COUNTY - Robertson County Sheriff Gerald Yezak confirms that a grass fire is burning near FM 391 between Wheelock and Hearne. As of Thursday afternoon, that fire is spreading and sources say there are structures nearby that are in danger of being burned.

Volunteers with at least four different fire crews are on scene. Hearne dispatchers tell us a unit from Hearne is there, as well as the Franklin, Wheelock, and Blackjack Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters tell us the flames spread to at least 15 acres before they were able to extinguish the fire. Crews spent hours putting out hotspots in nearby wooded areas to ensure a second flare-up would not happen.

Julia Clark with the Wheelock Volunteer Fire Department says they are unsure of what sparked this fire, and say they may never know - but emphasize that fires like this one are common in the dry, hot conditions, and that everyone should resist any temptation to burn even a small fire outdoors during a burn ban.
