DALLAS (AP) Five people have died in weather-related accidents in Texas as a wintry storm system left thousands without power and stranded travelers to start the Thanksgiving holiday week.
The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory until midday Monday for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, downgrading a winter storm warning.
The system dumped snow in the Texas Panhandle. The Department of Public Safety says two people died in separate accidents Saturday night on snow-covered roads in wrecks near Amarillo and Dumas. Three people were killed in a multivehicle wreck late Friday near Vega.
American Airlines and American Eagle canceled nearly 300 flights Monday, mainly in and out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.
Dallas-based electric utility Oncor reported about 23,000 customers without power Monday, in north and west parts of Texas.
