PECOS, N.M. (AP) Residents in 150 homes have been asked to evacuate as crews battle a wildfire near Pecos in the Santa Fe National Forest.
New Mexico State Forestry spokesman Dan Ware said Friday that the residents north of the Macho Creek were asked to evacuate after the 500 acre blaze jumped N.M. 63. The fire is burning 10 miles north of Pecos and a mile west of the community of Tres Lagunas.
Officials believe the fire was sparked Thursday on private land due to a downed power line.
Two helicopters and one air tanker are helping fight the wildfire. About 200 personnel are on the scene or mobilizing to fight the blaze.
No injuries had been reported and it's unknown if any structures have been destroyed.
