A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect for Milam, Robertson, Lee, and Leon Counties from 12am to 12pm THURSDAY. After a strong afternoon cold front, brisk north winds -- 20-25mph -- will continue to drop temperature to / just above a freeze tonight. A rain chance could turn into a scattered, wintry mix between 6am and 10am Thursday. Little-to-no accumulation is expected -- however, caution is urged driving on bridges and overpasses.
The National Weather Service will be in Downtown Bryan to hold two SKYWARN Training sessions Wednesday, March 5th, 2014.
The sessions will be held at the EOC (Emergency Operations Center) located at 110 North Main Street, in Downtown Bryan. There will be two separate sessions offered to attend. Those sessions are at:
--1pm to 3:30pm
--6pm to 8:30pm.
What is SKYWARN?
During severe weather, the National Weather Service will "activate" storm spotters, from time to time. While radar data can tell meteorologists quite a bit about storms that are moving through the Brazos Valley, ground truth is a valuable asset to understand just how severe a storm may (or may not) actually be.
This two and a half hour training session will help educate attendees about different severe weather parameters, along with how to safely "spot" storms during a significant weather event.
More details can be found on the official SKYWARN website.
The News 3 PinPoint Forecast Team will be on hand, at each session, to meet attendees and discuss just how important of a role certified Storm Spotter play during severe weather events.
