VINITA, Okla. (AP) - A large grassfire is burning in northeastern Oklahoma as windy, dry conditions increase the risk of wildfires in the state.
The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety closed U.S. 60 in Craig County because of the large fire between Vinita and Nowata. No injuries have been reported.
Burn bans are in effect in 23 counties as dry conditions persist.
The National Weather Service had no red flag fire warnings in effect in Oklahoma - although the weather service says warm temperatures combined with gusty winds and low humidity readings elevate the risk of wildfire through early Thursday night.
