CANYON, Texas (AP) A wildfire has closed Palo Duro Canyon State Park in the Texas Panhandle as emergency crews work to put out the blaze.
No injuries were immediately reported in the fire that scorched about 15 acres and closed the park Tuesday for safety reasons. The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department says the fire was contained Monday and the more than 20,000-acre park should reopen Wednesday.
Park official Mark Hassell says about 80 campers departed Monday night.
Emergency personnel face possible strong winds in extinguishing the blaze. The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for the area until early Wednesday. The park remains under a burn ban, meaning no campfires or use of fireplaces.
Authorities did not immediately say what they believe sparked the wildfire at the park near Canyon.
