As an upper-level low swings across the Desert Southwest and towards Texas Wednesday night / Thursday morning, the chance of rain and thunderstorms will increase to 70% by early Thursday morning. A warm front is approaching the area and should move in warmer and unstable air shortly after midnight.
The KBTX In-House PinPoint Forecast brings the main storm window between 5am and noon for the Brazos Valley. (See the slideshow above)
Main Concerns / Severe Weather Potential
The Storm Prediction Center has most of the Brazos Valley placed under a SLIGHT RISK for severe weather on Thursday. Those threats include:
--Damaging Winds (45mph to 60mph)
--A Brief, Isolated Tornado
--Brief, Heavy Rain
Timing for Potential Severe Weather
While every storm on Thursday morning (if they can form) won't necessarily be severe or the worst case scenario, it is something that cannot be ruled out.
As we await a line of thunderstorms -- along a cold front -- to approach the Brazos Valley, we'll have to be on guard for isolated thunderstorms that form ahead of that main line. If isolated storms manage to form and become "surface based" that could present the isolated tornado and / or large hail threat between -- mainly between 5am and 10am.
As the main line of thunderstorms arrives in the Brazos Valley -- sweeping from west to east -- the severe weather potential will turn towards more of a strong / damaging wind event and possibly even some hail. That time frame looks more likely between the hours of 7am and noon.
The PinPoint Weather Team will be on top of the storms when and if they move into the Brazos Valley. Of course the latest updates will be on-air during Brazos Valley This Morning (which can be watched via livestream here), on Facebook or Twitter.
You can track the storms before heading out on your Thursday morning, by using our Interactive PinPoint Radar.
We will also continue to update this story as severe weather unfolds in the Brazos Valley.
