For the second week in a row the Rattler Football team won't be taking the field this Friday night.

The school has cancelled this week's game against Bellville due to no power, and no school in the area.

But the resilient Rattlers aren't taking a "hurrication."

While the team is letting those who need to be with family, do just that. For those still in town this week, they're still having practice.

So despite no game this week, they're already gearing up for their next game.

The lights may be off in most of Navasota, but the Rattler football team isn't taking a day off.

"I don't know if it's so much about football as it is getting them away, and getting some activity going," Navasota Head Football Coach Lee Fedora said.

Of the 45 players on the Varsity team, 30 show up to practice. Twenty-eight of them are still without power in the homes.

Even the school isn't immune...

"We opened all our doors, and going into the dressing rooms it's pretty dark so we got flashlights helping kids get into their laundry.

But outside it's business as usual. Only a crooked goal post shows any signs of Ike charging through.

For that Coach Fedora considers his team lucky.

"We're a lot better off than a lot of people," Fedora said. "There's a lot of teams I've heard questioning whether they're even going to have a season."

Since Navasota High School is still without power, A&M Consolidated is letting the team bring over their laundry to get washed.

The Rattler Football team does have an open week in games coming up on October 3rd, and Coach Fedora is trying to find any 2A to 4A team willing to play the Rattlers so they can get another game in.
