Denton A severe thunderstorm has pummeled a North Texas college city with hail as large as baseballs and softballs, prompting reports of damage.
The National Weather Service reports hail of 3½-inch diameters and larger fell along U.S. 380 north of downtown Denton shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday. Denton city spokeswoman Lindsay Baker says reports of broken windows and windshields and other hail damage were widespread along that corridor, including the Texas Woman’s
University campus. No injuries were reported.
Schools and businesses in the area have closed and sheltered anyone there in place.
All Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) trains have stopped running.
Oncor is reporting some 360 power outages in Denton County.
The hailstorm moved onto more sparsely populated areas east of Denton.
